3 Snacks you thought were Healthy
Snacking is one activity in which almost everyone indulges. Irregular eating patterns are a major reason why one feels hungry at odd hours. While snacking on fruits and other unprocessed food items is harmless, there are many foods generally perceived to be “healthy” which in fact can do a lot of damage.
Popcorn
You go to a movie theater, and munch on some popcorn; or at home, watching a match and make some popcorn, load it with butter and salt. While normal popcorn is a rich source of fiber, adding butter and salt to it makes it unhealthy.
Muffins & pastries
While even the most ardent doughnut lover will agree that it is not healthy, but muffin and pastry lovers are not far behind either.
The calorie content in doughnuts varies – Yeast doughnuts may contain calories 150-300 calories, while the cream filled doughnuts may contain up to 400 calories.
The calorie content in muffins and pastries is not less either. A simple muffin available at the nearest baker on an average has more calories than a doughnut. Reduced carbohydrate pastries have an increased amount of fat.
Salads
While salads are the best available food items, loading the with dressings such as salsa, sour cream, guacamole, mozzarella, and mayonnaise make them as bad as a greasy burger. Each dressing can easily add around 300 calories to the salad.
In order to keep salad healthy and to not make it bland, use oil and vinegar as dressing.
How to control the unnatural ‘snacking’?
- Avoid high carb diets: A person’s blood sugar crashes after a high carb diet which makes them hungry soon.
- If you feel the need to munch, munch on things such as nuts and raw fruits. Nuts and fruits are more filling and low on calories than “traditional” snacks.
