The amount of sleep a person needs changes as he grows older. While newborns sleep for 16-18 hours a day, they start to recognise day and night by three months and at one year, they sleep for 10-12 hours a night. Children need more sleep during puberty and their body clocks make it difficult for them to fall asleep at night and wake up in the morning.
